A passion for UK engineering

Keir has worked for both suppliers and customers in his richly varied engineering background, including time in the UK and abroad. In his key role as Technical and Quality Director for Expromet Technologies Group, he will be drawing extensively on his knowledge and expertise, alongside encouraging the next generation of engineers.
A lifelong engineer
Keir started as an apprentice engineer at Doncasters Precision Castings Deritend, specialists in investment castings. He quickly progressed, becoming a product engineer and then engineering team leader.
Roles with a large industrial gas turbine manufacturer followed, then a move to Switzerland in a quality management position. Building up a network of trusted suppliers, Keir switched between manufacturing and customer positions, including stints in Italy and back at his original company as Technical Director.
Most recently, he managed a tool making company, then became VP of Product and Process Engineering at an aerospace forging company.
“All of my roles have been engineering based,” says Keir, who proudly refers to himself as “a lifelong engineer.”
Expertise in technical and quality issues
Having been on both sides of the supply relationship – engineering products to get them qualified by customers, then becoming a customer qualifying supplier parts to specification – Keir has a comprehensive understanding of the technical and quality issues he will now focus on across Expromet group companies.
Further, his experiences in investment casting and components for the energy industry (including at Alstom Power) have provided a wealth of practical understanding and connections from which he continues to benefit.
A passion for UK manufacturing
Despite having travelled and worked abroad, Keir remains passionate about the value of UK manufacturing and is keen to support the next generation of engineers.
“I’ve had some great mentors during my career, and have stayed in touch,” he says. “I’ve also been fortunate enough to coach and mentor a number of really talented people throughout my career –I get a real buzz from seeing them go on to achieve great things.”
Supporting Expromet Group companies
Keir’s role as Technical & Quality Director has given him a thorough introduction to Expromet’s UK manufacturing sites, including Metaltech Precision’s extensive factory at Chard in Somerset; Investacast’s foundry at Ilfracombe in Devon; and Haworth Castings’ foundry and machining centres in Romsey and Southampton, Hampshire.
“I’m delighted to have joined Expromet at such an exciting time for UK manufacturing, and look forward to working with each of the group companies and our trusted overseas suppliers to deliver precision technical castings and manufacturing to Expromet customers across the world.”
